The first "City of Sins" was a landmark film. No, not the best, namely, that this film adaptation showed that comics are not only about superheroes, giving Green Light the legendary “300 Spartans” and some other films based on serious graphic novels. I admit that the first part I watched for the first time only a month ago and I am not a fan (to be completely honest – I didn’t even read) the comics themselves. But the film itself seemed very good for me, although with such an acting team (Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Benisio Del and heaps of other famous people) could be much better. But what is definitely not to take away from the “city” is the atmosphere of complete decline, concentrated in a single settlement and is far from last due to the most important graphic style. However, in 2005, the audience did not share my opinion, and the film raised only $ 158.7 million at the world box office, which with a budget of 40 million can only be called a small stretch.
I deliberately do not want to say the “second part”, because we came up with the numbering with us: the original did without numbers, calling “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”. By the way, for some reason they decided not to translate the screensaver of the film, although there was a translation in the trailer.
Okay, now we go directly to the object of our attention today. So, as in the case of the previous film, the new "City of Sins" is divided into novels. There are four of them in total: “Another Saturday Night”, “The Woman for which should be killed”, “A long terrible night” and “The Last Nancy Dance”. The first serves to enter the film itself and ends exactly in front of the initial credits, in it Marv is a street thunder, spending his boring days in a bar for alcohol and fights, tries to remember what happened after another booze. Fortunately, several corpses nearby were not allowed to tighten the entry.
The most important novel, whose name is made in the subtitle of the entire film-“The woman for which it is worth killing,” tells about one of the skeletons in the closet of the photographer Dwight McCarthy-his great love in the person and not only the face of an Eva (or Ava, I don’t know; in the same case, in the dubbing, “Eva”, which seemed to be betrayed, but which he still loves and waits for her call. Waited; but in vain, for eva does not mind playing with Dwight again.
The third story (not in order https://bettingsitesnogamstop.co.uk/combat-sports-wrestling-betting/ of narrative, but just like that) is dedicated to Nancy Callakhan and the only one of all is the direct sequel of the first film. Nancy cannot survive (spoiler. ) The death of the Hartigan, who once saved it, falls into depression and begins to lose his mind, while trying to kill Senator Rock, responsible for the spoiler that I already described two lines above,. Hartigan himself appears only in the form of a silent ghost, languishing in the head of a girl.
And finally, we reached the short story “A long terrible night”, written specifically for the film (in any case, Wikipedia says so). In it, the daring and extremely successful player of Johnny arrives in the city of sins with the aim of disrupting the largest kush in history, defeating the very rock, which, for a minute, is the richest and most influential person in the city. However, as it turns out, not just to beat, but this is already a spoiler.
This booth does not happen at a time, unlike the previous film: “A long terrible night” goes almost in parallel with “Nancy’s last dance”, but it ends a little earlier, “a woman for which it is worth killing” is generally a distant prequel, and the introduction occurs incomprehensible when it is incomprehensible when. And this is precisely this lies the first and only plot claim – the error of the screenwriter Frank Miller in chronology. Of course, getting to her is difficult, but possible.
The error is expressed in the fact that the chronology is disrupted. Marv in the first film kills Cardinal Rock, after which he is immediately caught and, after some “investigation”, they are executed on an electric chair. At the same time, it is indicated that the brother of the cardinal is the same Senator Rork, still alive. But in the "Last Dance of Nancy", for some reason, the living Marv helps Nancy with the murder of the senator.
There are few new characters in the film compared to the previous film: Eva and Johnny and several secondary persons who have 3-5 minutes of screen time from the force: Mort, Mars, Damiene Lord. The rest met in the City of Sins: Dwight, Nancy, Rork, Marv, Hartigan, Gail, the universal favorite of Miho and some more. I must say, there was no worse from this, and new stories composed jointly from the "beginners" and "old people" go "with a bang". In addition, the plot pleases with the ongoing references to the original "city of sins": for example, the film shows how Matn has lost his right eye. Well, on trifles such as Camo Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, however, I have not found, or the appearance of Lady Gaga in the minute stage add a couple of lulz.
One of the most obvious advantages of the film, captivating the viewer, is certainly an acting cast, which for the second time pleases with a variegated names: Bruce Willis, who appears in 3-4 scenes with a total duration of 3 minutes, almost not moving and without saying anything, but in the final credits his name is shown even earlier -Either in the “uncontrollable” there is little fee, then the name is higher than all with such children’s shootings), Jessica Alba, who has not yet learned how to move his face in the frame, but still a well-dancing, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose talent has been a mystery to me for a long time for a long time. Not without replacements: now Dennis Hasbier plays a giant and charismatic manut instead of deceased Michael Clark Duncan, which, however, almost imperceptibly, Clark Owen “gave” Dwight Josh Brolin (such a replacement helped to explain one plot turn), and Mikhay’s decreed in the decree of Mikhami replaced Jaymi’s positions Chung. And she replaced, to put it mildly, it’s bad: firstly, the face of the chung is good, and secondly, it works very awkwardly with a weapon, plus it is now more often shown in the frame, which reduces coolness to the level of the skirting board. Mickey Rurk became the soul of the whole company, and, more precisely, his character is Marv. Grimila appears in all the short stories and is truly delivered by her attitude to life; He has not yet met Goldi (which, however, flashed once in the frame), therefore he does not engage in self -digging.
And, of course, a cherry on the cake appears to us by Eva Green in the role of Eva. The fact that she plays perfectly fateful villains, I knew also on the “gloomy shadows”, but what was so great, I didn’t even suspect: not only is the actress he would make a gorgeous (the film would make it full, If you understand what I mean), so it is also impossible not to admire the character’s actions: the achievements of a very high goal with the help of simple and long -known means, I have not met before. And the picture of the film additionally emphasizes the character.
The graphic style of the “City of Sins” is recognizable by film amateurs of the whole world: the black and white world with grotesque color elements truly fascinate and create a unique atmosphere of gloom and neglect of the city. Now 3D technology has been added to it, which looks like more appropriate here, and now it is simply not to tear yourself away from the screen – the drawn environment looks implausible, but at the same time extremely realistic.
The film sounds, of course, worse than it looks, but nevertheless quite worthy: the music is worthy, although it is almost invisible to the sounds of the environment (I categorically advise you to “listen” to the film for the film – it is very cool there (in any case, our dubbing) is quite tolerable). Eva stands out here again – it was so perfectly "translated".
At the end of this text I want to say a little. “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”, of course, is a great film that has many advantages: a defiant world, an excellent picture, a chic cast, an excellent duration (just when I started to get tired, we can list for a long time. But there is one “but”, which I did not say about – cinema is purely for fans: fans of the comic graphic style, fans of Noar, Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez or even Eva Green (seriously, when I found out that she was filming, the question in the visit was immediately disappeared). If you do not like anything of the above, then the film will be a disappointment from the category "I was waiting for more".
Pros: Great atmosphere, rich acting cast, unusual graphic style.
Cons: constrainedly chronology, Jamie Chung in the role of miho.
Plot: 8/10 – the system of short stories and an unusual world is pulled out;
Acting game: 10/10 – everything that is needed is shown perfectly;
Picture: 9/10 – Some will not like it, and so – chic;
Sound: 8/10 – pleasant music and voice acting;
Interest: 10/10 – the time of the film is perfectly designed;
